The District initiated a comprehensive plan to renovate, expand, and modernize its healthcare facilities in Columbia, Louisiana, to better serve the residents of Columbia, Caldwell Parish, and the surrounding rural communities. The existing hospital currently offers essential services, including inpatient and outpatient care, an emergency department, radiology, and laboratory diagnostics.
The project is being executed in two phases:
Phase One: A new 15,000-square-foot Rural Health Clinic was constructed at the front of the property, significantly enhancing outpatient services. The clinic offers both adult and pediatric care to the community.
Phase Two: A 21,000-square-foot hospital expansion is planned, featuring a modern Emergency Department, Imaging Department, and a four-bed ICU. This addition will connect to the existing facility via a corridor. Before construction begins, selected structures will be demolished to make room for the expansion.
During both phases, the hospital’s patient care areas and support services will remain fully operational to ensure uninterrupted service to the community.
The project utilizes land already owned by the District. Site improvements, landscaping, and parking reconfigurations completed during Phase One have been designed to accommodate the new additions in Phase Two. These updates also optimize traffic flow, with specific considerations for ambulances and deliveries.
